What does Atatürk Museum commemorate?

Atatürk Museum commemorates the months Mustafa Kemal Atatürk lived in this Şişli house and preserves objects connected with him and the period. Atatürk stayed there as a tenant with close colleagues including İsmet (İnönü) Pasha, Ali Fuat (Cebesoy) Pasha, Kazım (Karabekir) Pasha and Rauf Orbay.

A commemorative plaque was ceremoniously placed on the exterior wall on November 14, 1925. Istanbul Municipality purchased the house on May 28, 1928, and it opened to visitors as the Atatürk Revolution Museum on June 15, 1942. After a fire on January 9, 1962, the building was repaired and reopened on March 4 that year.

The collection includes Atatürk-related items and a library of books written about him. Paintings include works by İbrahim Çallı and Sami Yetik, as well as ten watercolors by V.

Pisani depicting the Greek invasion of Izmir. Some personal belongings of Cevat Abbas, Atatürk’s aide-de-camp who also lived in the house, were acquired from his family and added to the exhibition.
